Our Mission
Mission Statement:
Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance fosters awareness and appreciation of the landscape and cultural heritage of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument through collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management.
Who we are:
Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance was founded in 2013 by a group of local citizens who were concerned about the future of their local Public Lands. Limited federal funding and resources prompted this group to find alternative volunteer support to care for the precious and delicate landscape of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. We are also proud partners of Onward! a Legacy Foundation.
Our Vision
Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance envisions responsible use and stewardship of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument by diverse communities while honoring the traditional values of the Indigenous peoples of the region.
Our Values
Stewardship
We encourage responsible use, enjoyment and management of CANM to enhance/facilitate experiences of future generations.
Education
We communicate our mission through educational principles and practices.
Collaboration
We collaborate through the contributions of our employees, Board members, and volunteers, and a strong working relationship with the BLM and the public.
Community
By working together we can bring in diverse perspectives to better understand what the landscape means for past and present generations and protect the natural and cultural resources in perpetuity.
Inclusion
We appreciate all perspectives, voices, styles, and identities, with special attention to the 26 Indigenous Tribes claiming affiliation with CANM.

National Conservation Lands:
- Canyons of the Ancients National Monument is a part of the larger National Conservation Lands, encompassing approximately 27 million acres of America’s most spectacular landscapes. Read more about the National Conservation Lands here.
- Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance, as a partner group dedicated exclusively to Canyons Of The Ancients National Monument is a member of the Friends Grassroots Network through Conservation Lands Foundation.
