Sound & Environment: An Artist-Led Workshop with Kino Benally
Saturday, August 9, 2025 | 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center
27501 CO-184, Dolores, CO
Experience the power of sound, creativity, and connection to the land in this unique artist-led workshop with Kino Benally, a Diné (Navajo) musician and producer.
In Sound & Environment, Kino will share his approach to creating music using both digital tools and the natural world. Participants will:
-
Learn how Kino composes music using software like Ableton
-
Step outside to explore and record sounds from the environment—rustling leaves, stones, footsteps, and more
-
Contribute a personal sound or instrument to the group project
-
Watch Kino mix these elements into a collaborative composition in real time
This is more than a music workshop—it’s an opportunity to deepen your connection to place and community through sound. Blending Indigenous perspectives, sound art, and hands-on creativity, this program invites participants to explore the harmony between culture, technology, and the environment.
Bring Your Own Instrument!
Participants are encouraged to bring any instruments or rhythm devices to add unique layers to the experience.
Free and open to the public.
