Sound & Environment: An Artist-Led Workshop with Kino Benally

📅 Saturday, August 9, 2025 | 1:00 – 3:00 PM
📍 Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center
27501 CO-184, Dolores, CO

Experience the power of sound, creativity, and connection to the land in this unique artist-led workshop with Kino Benally, a Diné (Navajo) musician and producer.

In Sound & Environment, Kino will share his approach to creating music using both digital tools and the natural world. Participants will:

  • Learn how Kino composes music using software like Ableton

  • Step outside to explore and record sounds from the environment—rustling leaves, stones, footsteps, and more

  • Contribute a personal sound or instrument to the group project

  • Watch Kino mix these elements into a collaborative composition in real time

This is more than a music workshop—it’s an opportunity to deepen your connection to place and community through sound. Blending Indigenous perspectives, sound art, and hands-on creativity, this program invites participants to explore the harmony between culture, technology, and the environment.

🎵 Bring Your Own Instrument!
Participants are encouraged to bring any instruments or rhythm devices to add unique layers to the experience.

✅ Free and open to the public.
